Joe Migwi

Mr. Joe Migwi was born in Rae on April 28, 1928. He told me that he feels young but he is old. Joe is a very respected Elder in the community and enjoys sharing his stories and experiences with people.

Games

When he was a young boy he would travel from Rae, south to camp in the bush with his family. They would often play Hand Games there with his family and friends. Often the fathers and brothers would all play together and it would make for lots of fun and laughter. During the Hand Games they would play anytime of the day. As young boys when they were out with their friends they would often end up playing Hand Games all the time. Since they were young boys their parents wouldn’t allow them to play for tobacco, but they would always play for matches. For the young girls back then things were different, they did not play the Hand Games, mostly the young boys and men.
